AUGUST 26th, PLEASE REMEMBER TO VOTE TODAY
August 26th News:
-
Please find attached a copy of Senator Lowell Barron's letter concerning my family and the bridge. Apparently, several dozen copies of this letter were left at the Mentone Post Office this morning or last night. I have contacted Mayor Hammond concerning this letter numerous times, over the weekend, yesterday and today and still have not received any word back to existence from Mayor Hammond. If this letter was released following the Open Records Law, there should a record from one of our public officials, Mayor Hammond or Senator Barron, as to who they shared this letter with so as an idea can be given to how copies were distributed to the post office.
Given that this letter has not been verified by Mayor Hammond, it is possible that this letter is a counterfeit. Today, I spoke with the ALDOT Legal Bureau and the Alabama Historical Commission concerning Senator Barron's letter. Neither agency has any knowledge of giving Senator Barron information concerning the Mentone Bridge Project, as discussed in his letter. If it is not a counterfeit, Senator Barron's information came from somewhere other than that of our state agencies who handle these matters. Senator Barron's source may explain the numerous misunderstandings involved in the Mentone Bridge project.
We are glad to have been given this opportunity to clear up with Senator Barron and the Commerce, Transportation and Utilities Committee the numerous misperceptions contained in his letter.
As to the merits of the letter, my father is ecstatic to been referenced a “Big Time Environmental Lawyer”. My father tried his last asbestos case 20+ years ago and feels Senator Barron's credit to his previous accomplishments reinforces his feeling of accomplishment in those cases. However, besides being an attorney of record in a trespass/nuisance action, my father and I have not handled any environmental law in over two decades.
We are drafting a formal response to Senator Barron's letter and we will be posting it as we send it to Senator Barron's Office.
Finally, Mayor Hammond has still has not responded to my requests as to why the documents on MentoneAlabama.com were never included in the public record and disclosed upon a valid Open Records Request.

August 25th News:
- Today, Katherine and I, visited as many homes as we could to talk with Mentone citizens about Mentone issues. If we did visit your home, thank you for speaking to us. If we did not get by your home, we are sorry the weather did not permit us to make a complete circuit of Mentone. Please visit MentoneAlabama.com if you have any questons or comments. As always, please feel free to call me with any ideas.
August 24th News:
- On August 22, I proposed 3 questions to Mayor Hammond concerning documents never included in the Mentone Town Bridge project file. These questions and documents have been posted on MentoneAlabama.com. If possible, I would like to learn the answers from Mayor Hammond before Tuesday's election, if even only to the first question.
- It was brought to my attention yesterday, by a knowledgeable Mentone Citizen, that a letter exists written from Senator Lowell Barron concerning my family and/or our family home in Mentone. This citizen stated that this letter is being shown around Mentone and in his words "90% of Mentone has seen it". However, my family and I have no knowledge of such a letter. If such a letter does exist, if anyone has a copy, or knowledge of its contents, we would very much like to know anything you can tell us. I wrote Mayor Hammond yesterday asking if he knew of such a letter and have not received any word back. We will keep any information provided anonymous, and/or you can write me at PO Box 100, Mentone 35984.
- Also, to those of you who have contacted my family and friends saying the Mentone Market has been passing out information and/or showing people letters concerning me and my campaign: I spoke with Tom and Kristin, and they have given me their word that these accusations are completely false. Though I do not know where these rumors originated, I regret any inconvenience these rumors have caused Tom and Kristin.
- Finally, The Mentone Matters Open House was a Great Success and I enjoyed speaking with everyone. Thank you all again attending!
